Antinori Reunites Arcadia Vineyard with Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars

Marchesi Antinori, the historic Italian wine group, has acquired Arcadia Vineyard, a property long associated with Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. The purchase reunites the vineyard with the winery, bringing both under the same ownership for the first time in nearly two decades.

Warren Winiarski, the legendary Napa Valley vintner, originally acquired Arcadia Vineyard in 1996. He had previously co-founded Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in 1970, guiding it to global recognition when its Cabernet Sauvignon won the famed 1976 Judgment of Paris tasting. In 2007, Winiarski sold Stag’s Leap to Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, with Marchesi Antinori joining as a minority partner in the deal. Antinori later took full control of the winery in 2023.

Located in the Coombsville AVA at the foot of Mount George, Arcadia Vineyard spans 135 acres (55 hectares), with 84 acres (34 hectares) under vine. The vineyard is primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside smaller blocks of Chardonnay and Merlot. A portion of the estate’s natural habitat was previously donated by Winiarski to the Land Trust of Napa County to ensure it remains undeveloped.

The acquisition is the latest in Antinori’s broader strategy to expand its presence in Napa Valley. Over the years, the group has made several notable investments in the region, including taking full ownership of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in 2023 and securing full control of Washington State’s Col Solare in 2024.

Renzo Cotarella, CEO of Marchesi Antinori, highlighted the significance of the acquisition: “This purchase brings Arcadia Vineyard back to its historical home. It allows us to move closer to our vision of producing Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars wines entirely from estate-grown fruit, following the same philosophy we uphold at our other estates around the world.”

Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
